Affirmations - what are they?

These are positive things you can say to yourself to cover up negative things your mind is telling you. They take three forms: "I am", "I can" and "I will." Eg. "I am intelligent", "I can be a winner" and "I will sleep well tonight". They are statements of self belief. There is more information about affirmations here.

There would be nothing to frighten you

if you refused to be afraid.

During my life journey on this planet I shall start each day with these affirmations.

I am capable. I am worthwhile. I am beautiful. I am lovable. I shall accept both my strengths and my weaknesses for they are me. I shall never again believe the "lie" that if I make a mistake I am a mistake. My mistakes are the learning tools that I shall encounter on my life journey. When I learn from my mistakes, I give them meaning. When I give my mistakes meaning, I can begin to forgive myself - I can begin to heal. I shall not use my mistakes as excuses to give up on me, my mistakes are not me. I shall seek the wisdom to nurture my heart, mind, body, and soul so that I may feel more centered - providing an energy reserve that allows me to climb the mountains in my own life providing an energy reserve that allows me to love and support others who are climbing a different mountain providing an energy reserve that allows time for friends, play, and celebration of life.

I shall allow myself to feel capable - so that I may seek excellence.
I shall allow myself to feel sadness - so that joy may return.
I shall allow myself to feel joy - so that I may be revitalized.
I shall allow myself to feel afraid - so that I may find courage.
I shall allow myself to feel alone - so that I may know me.
I shall allow myself to feel beautiful - so that I may feel free.
I shall allow myself to feel lovable - so that the loving may seek me.
I shall allow myself to feel pain - so that I may heal.
I shall allow myself to feel worthy - so that I may fulfill my purpose.

When I am centered, I see the perfection in the world, myself and others. When I find the world to be imperfect, I will take responsibility for painting it that way. I will look into the heart of a rose, or the eyes of a newborn baby and again know perfection. I take responsibility for creating my own life story through the choices I have made - to blame others is to give away my personal power. Who will I allow to write the next chapter of my life?

I shall seek the courage to believe in a God or Higher Power who will laugh with me in the sunlight or cry with me in the darkness. I shall make a small difference on this planet through the work I do - when I leave I will have done my share. I shall live, love, laugh, and learn on my journey through life - I shall be remembered.

Linda R. Bryson

I firmly believe the world will sort itself out in the end.

Believe it with me. At least none of us will be around

to be proven wrong.

Dance like nobody's watching;
Love like you've never been hurt.
Sing like nobody's listening
Live like it's heaven on earth.

Mark Twain

In 1954 a young girl called Sadako began to make paper cranes and her goal was to make 1000 of them before she died at the age of twelve from leukemia. Her determination has spread so that origami paper cranes have been recognised as symbols of international hope and peace.

It's not what happens to you,

It's what you do about it.

"Taking responsibility for change"

- W. Mitchell from the book "It's not what happens to you. It's what you do about it."

A friend of mine opened his wife's underwear drawer and picked up a silk paper wrapped package. "This," he said, "isn't any ordinary package."
He unwrapped the box and stared at both the silk paper and the box. "She got this the first time we went to New York, 8 or 9 years ago. She has never put it on, she was saving it for a special occassion. Well I guess this is it."
He went to the bed and placed the gift box next to the other clothing he was taking to the funeral house -- his wife had just died. He turned to me and said, "Never save something for a special occassion. Every day in your life is a special occassion."
I still think those words changed my life....
Now I read more and clean less;
I sit on the porch without worrying about anything;
I spend more time with my family, and less at work;
I understand that life should be a source of experience to be lived up to, not survived though;
I no longer keep anything;
I use crystal glasses every day;
I wear new clothes to the supermarket if I feel like it;
I dont save my special perfume for special occassions. I use it whenever I want to;
The words "Some day..." and "one day..." are fading away from my dictionary. If it's worth seeing, listening or doing, I want to see, listen to or do it now..
I dont know what my friend's wife would have done if she've known she wouldnt be there the next morning. This, no one can tell.
I think she might have called her relatives and close friends. She might have called old friends to make peace over quarrels. I'd like to think she would go out for Chinese, her favourite food. Its these small things that I would regret not doing, if I knew my time had come.
I would regret it becuse I would no longer see the friends I would meet for the last time or write those letters that I was gonna to write "one of these days".
I would regret and feel sad, because I didnt say to my brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, not enough times anyway, how much I love them.
Now I try not to delay, postpone or keep anything that could bring laughter and joy into our lives...
Each morning, I say to myself that this could be "a special day"...
Because each day, each hour, each minute, is special.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.
Marcel Proust

You can take the religious slant away from this if you wish... It still applies to every day life!
I have in my hands two boxes,
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black box,
And all your joys in the gold."
I heeded His words, and in the two boxes,
Both my joys and sorrows I stored,
But though the gold became heavier each day,
The black was as light as

With curiosity, I opened the black box,
To see what I could see,
And I saw,a hole at the bottom,
Where all my sorrows should be.

I showed the hole to God, and mused,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be!"
He smiled a gentle smile and said,
"My child, they're all here with me.."

I asked God, why He gave me the boxes,
Why the gold and the black with the hole?
"My child,  gold - for counting your blessings,
Black -  for you to let go."

Delta Goodrem - Be Strong
Are you swimming upstream in oceans of blue?
Do you feel like your sinking?
Are you sick of the rain after all you've been through?
Well I know what you're thinking
When you can't take it
You can make it
Sometime soon I know you'll see

'cause when your in you're darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you're like a single flower whose colours have turned to shades of gray
Well hang on and be strong

Where taking each step one day at a time
You can't loose your spirit
Let live and let live forget and forgive
It's all how you see it
And just remember keep it together
Don't you know you're never alone

'cause when you're in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you're like a single flower whose colours have turned to shades of gray
Well hang on, and be strong

No you're not defeated
And soon you'll be smiling once again
Then you won't have to feel it
Let it go with the wind
Time passes us by
And know that you're aloud to cry

'cause when you're in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you're like a single flower whose colours have turned to shades of gray
Well hang on and be strong

My friend wrote this and gave me a copy just after my mum died. You find love and compassion in the most unexpected places.

To all who have loved and lost

Life is meant to be a surprise. The risks we tke may hurt us or change us in ways we never imagined. Just because we fail doesn't mean we've fallen, but to not even try - that's a failure. Trying new things makes life exciting and the friendships that deceive you can only make you stronger. At times the world can seem a scary and damaged place, but believe it has much more good inside it than bad. Know that as long as you have those who love you, you have your peace and you are home.
The friends that stay with you will love you, even if they think you're foolish. Trust that they won't leave you and sprinkle them with sunshine when they suffer in pain. True friends will laugh with you, cry with you, hug you and smile. They are the best medicine when you are sick and tired and will give you strength when your courage is fading and will lighten your path on a darkening journey.
The family that you see through all your stages an guide you through all that you have and have ever known. The decisions the parents make intending to annoy are fuelled by love and care. They give us the greatest girl of all. The gift of innocence.
Though when they are goen, their spirit lives on and their influence will encourage you to take thepath that leads to your dreams. As long as you never forget, they can never die, they survive in you. The siblngs you love and hate all at once can help you when you need it and will never judge whatever you do. They irritate but make you laugh all at once and on your coldest days they say the things you are afraid of.
The career you though never possible will never be true unless you chase it. When you fee tied and stupid, you are simply on step one of your journey. Though others may dobt you, the ones who know you will support you and when you reach all that you dremt, you'll look bac and you will smile. To take a chance on something that may alter yourfurture is the scariest thing in life, risks are meant to be taken, even if we don't think we have the strength to try. Take a look aroun you, you'll find there are so many people waiting to catch you if you fall.
Imagination is the belief that fairies are lighting the way in the dark. Like Angels they guide us with an invisible hand of inspiration. Angels are those loved and lost who guide you in times of need. Inspiration can come from themost remarkable places and in the hardest of times the music you hear will lift you with eternal grace.
You are life's one true beauty, who's inner strength comes no from within but from those you give words of wisdom and truth. Every day we walk on the edge of glass and we fall and sleed but this can only make us appreciate all that we have. With every bad time there is a good one and itis the goo ones tat give us the confidence to trust and help. There is only one of you, no-one can ever replace you, so dont lose her, fight and keep her alive. To be broken hearted makes us wholeand to love keeps us alive. Never be afraid to ask for help, it is not losing, it is the bravest thing you'll do and know that I a here, shining a light on your life.

From an Angel
